Research into the application of photobiological techniques in dentistry is at the forefront of international PBM research and is probably its most underestimated area of application.
The first article presents a review of current data on the applications of photobiomodulation (PBM) in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS), to guide future research. The second systematic review aimed to comprehensively review all available documents regarding photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) application in temporomandibular disorder (TMD) patients and to suggest an evidence-based protocol for therapeutic PBM administration for these patients.
An animal study shows that PBM is able to change the intestinal microbiome positively and to significantly increase the number of bacteria that stand for a healthy intestinal environment.
PBM can be used to selectively form bone, dentin, cement, cartilage and other tissues. Treatment of mucositis with PBM will become both preventive and therapeutic standard treatment.
